Mae at her wooden kitchen counter, stirring a small pot of ginger and lemon tea, jars of dried herbs on the shelves behind her.
Hi honey, I'm Mae.
Pull up a chair.

Sweetheart,

When I was a girl in the Blue Ridge, the nearest pharmacy was forty minutes down a dirt road. So when one of us kids had a cough, Mama didn't drive to town. She sliced an onion into a jar of honey and set it on the windowsill.

She learned that from her mother, and I learned it from her. For fifty years I've kept all of it in a shoebox of stained index cards. My granddaughter finally made me write it down properly, so here it is.

It isn't medicine and it won't replace your doctor. It's the gentle, cheap, kitchen-table care our families leaned on for generations, and I think it's worth keeping.

Love, Mae

About Mae

Three generations of women, one kitchen drawer.

I grew up in a farmhouse in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the youngest of five. My grandmother kept her remedies in her head. My mother wrote hers on the backs of seed packets. I kept mine in a shoebox.

These days I share them on Instagram, and so many of you asked for the whole collection that I sat down and did it. Everything in the book is something my family actually used, written the way I'd explain it to you across the table.

Made with love, and a lot of tea.

Questions

What folks usually ask me.

How do I get the book after I pay?

Right away. After checkout you'll see a download button, and the same link comes to your email. It's a PDF, so it opens on your phone, tablet or computer, and you can print it.

Is it a real paper book?

No, it's digital. Nothing gets shipped, so you can start reading tonight. Lots of readers print their favorite pages and keep them in the kitchen.

Do I need special herbs or a garden?

No. Everything comes from a regular grocery store: honey, ginger, lemons, oats, onions, cloves, chamomile tea, Epsom salt. A few remedies use a drop of peppermint or lavender oil, which any drugstore carries.

Will these remedies cure my condition?

No, and I'd never tell you that. These are the gentle, traditional things my family used for everyday discomforts. They are not a treatment for any disease. If something is serious, sudden, or doesn't pass in a few days, please see your doctor. Every chapter tells you when.

I'm pregnant, nursing, or on medication. Is it safe for me?

Please ask your doctor or pharmacist first. Some herbs and teas can interact with medications or aren't recommended during pregnancy. The book marks those remedies clearly.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once and the book is yours. No monthly charges, ever.

What if I don't like it?

Email me within 60 days and you get a full refund. You can keep the book.
